By kimB has arrived!

I’m starting over friends!

Well that’s a lie, I’m just changing my company name to By kimB.

DON’T WORRY!  punKy J isn’t going anywhere!  I’m basically just adding this onto the fun.

I decided to make the Company name By kimB and start sub company’s so I’m not restricted to one style of creativity.  I have a lot going on in this mind of mine and I need to be able to properly identify my products.

So what this means is that I will have a line called punKy J By kimB as you are familiar with.  I will still have the funky totes, made from recycled products, and always functional.

Then I’m going to have a line called MAN By kimB for…well…Men of course.

And a line that I haven’t named yet for old school shirts and sweatshirts that I will be making into…anything really!

So it’s all the same concept.  1st hand bags from 2nd hand clothes all around.  But covering a broader scope of people.

I’ve already bought the domain name,(which I’ve done absolutely nothing with yet), started a twitter, and a new facebook account and blog.  It’s been a long busy night.  But I THINK I’ve covered all my bases.  So make sure to “like” and “follow” and “subscribe” in those places now.  I won’t be deleting any accounts because like I said, punKyJ does still exsist, but most of the info will be on the By kimB sites.

So hope you see you on the other side =)

Kirk’s Magic Messenger Done…Again! Almost…

Tonight I was determined to sew SOMETHING!  And since KP has been dropping not so subtle hints that he’d love to use his bag, I decided it was time to make the final requested adjustments on his Magic Messenger.  And since I also decided that my policy is “If you don’t like it, I’ll fix it” then I should stay true to my word!
.
He wanted to make the strap cushions just larger than the size of the strap vs. the same size as the side panel, as you can see in the original version.
So I cut everything down to size and sewed it all up tonight.  Now all I need to find out is if he’s going to want to velcro these straps down to the side of the bag and if he’ll want the velcro to match.  Knowing him he’ll have me dye the velcro so it will match exactly =)
.
And as you can see in the pictures, working has been very manageable considering all of the wonderful amenity’s I’ve now issued as requirements to sit down and work.  Lately I’ve only sat down to work once I’ve put on a movie, fixed a great big mug of hot chocolate (in my starbucks cup that I got from the very first starbucks in Seattle), and put on my cozy pajamas.
.
It’s kinda made this part of my day theraputic in a required sort of way.  But I now look forward to creating even MORE than I did before!  Which I never thought was possible, but “they” say anything is possible.  Who knew!  And I know you’re just a little bit jealous of my Chinese take out!  =)
.
Enjoy!

First Cut!

I hesitate to even tell you that I finally made my first cut on my Army diaper bag only because of how long ago I introduced you to it!  EMBARRASSING!  But here it is!  I officially have the front and back face, outside side panel and 4 pockets =)  I’m getting closer to the easy part!  Sewing!

It’s so good to be chopping things up again *sigh*  Hopefully I can have most of it done by this weekend!  I’ll keep you updated!

PS.  Here’s the view of my new place, after my genius friends helped me organize, complete with photo studio!  Can’t wait to get some stuff up on those plain white walls!

Raquel’s Army Diaper Bag in Progress!

So although this post is titles Army Diaper Bag I thought you’d all be interested in seeing some photos of WHY I’ve been so MIA!  And even worse is that everytime I post I write “I’m back in action!” yet I still post every two weeks! haha  I just can’t get right!

So those are some pictures of my cute little studio that I still haven’t quite moved into yet, and I will say that I just bought about a hundred fake flowers at Michaels to decorate my apartment.  Usually I wouldn’t have gone the fake route because I’m all about being fresh and good smelling but I got ALL of them for TWO DOLLARS!  Including amazing little glass bottles to put them in!  I’ll definitely have to post a picture of those when I’m not huddled up surrounded by fabric and memory cards galore ( I’m in the middle of a photo uploading frenzy as I type this.)

But back to the bag I’m working on, and the reason you are all reading this!

I agree to do a bag for Raquel before I left for the summer but there were issues in getting the fabric.  Originally she wanted two blankets done, then realized with three little girls around and under the age of two, that  a diaper bag would probably be a better idea.  Then with her oldest two getting older she thought it’d be nice for them to have their own little messenger bag/backpacks.  Which I totally agree with.

So I now have all the fabric I need and have begun to seam rip all the pockets that I will need for this bag full of storage.  I am finding that the army makes some pretty amazing pockets on their uniforms!  Some have an all Velcro front so you don’t have to aim so accurately to get it closed.  Some with a drawstring to cinch the top a little extra, and some just have a nice sized pleats in them so they are comfortably expandable!

I can already see that an internship with the Army design department would work wonders for my career!

I’m so ready to see all these bags come together and can’t wait to post pictures of the progress!

Get excited!

More Repeats! The fun never ends =)

I didn't even ask his name. Or where he got that shirt!

I was out on a play date at the mall shopping for…well…not much, just wanted to hit up the food court at Valley Fair when I saw the shirt I used for my Eye of the Tiger bag! It was one of my VERY first ones and my best attempt at a semi round shoulder bag. It was so early in the punKyj business that I didn’t even do a full blog post for it, which I think I might do now =) It was right there in the opening of an Ed Hardy store printed on t-shirts, onesies and everything! I was sad they were displayed in a shadow box because I couldn’t get a great picture of them.

THEN a few days later I spent a great afternoon at the DMV patiently waiting for the automated woman to call out my number, when she did I walked up to the corresponding window, and of all people to have help me, and of all the things he could’ve worn that day he was wearing my Tiffany’s Theatre Tote shirt!!! How COOL is that! I know he thought I was a little silly for getting so excited over his shirt but he was happy to let me take his picture. I almost didn’t ask, but I knew I’d regret it if I walked away and never got proof that he was wearing my tote as a shirt!

It’s so fun seeing my things on the street!

My First Circle Scarf!

I’ve been running around like crazy trying to “find” some time to get all my work done but apparently time is not found it’s MADE!

So last night after I got home from work around 9:30pm I put my desire for this great lime green circle scarf I’ve been eyeing for a week now to some good use!

I found an LRG shirt I had left over from a bag and my old intramural Tennis Champions t-shirt and got to chopping, sewing and figuring this pattern out!

In all of the excitement I only took these sketchy picture from my phone, but there will be more and BETTER ones to come =)

And as always ENJOY!

I found a repeat!

I went to the thrift store the other day and found this shirt…

Look familiar?

It’s Erics Ecko Messenger!

I’ve never come across a duplicate item before, except when I was in an interview and a woman walked by wearing my green lumberjack shirt. But I was too embarrassed to ask to take a picture of her =). Not to mention I was mid interview…

Anyway, just though that was cool.

Hope you’re having a good day!

Almost back in action =)

Life hasn’t slowed down quite yet and it’s about to get a little crazier! I’m back in California and have found a car, job and a am working on moving into a new place!

With all the crazyness I left half of my sewing machine and sewing supplies on the east coast and they just arrived in the mail so I can actually set up shop once again and get to work! I have a few orders that I must complete soon and adjustments need to be made with KP’s Magic Messenger…still!

Hopefully I find a place with some sewing space soon and can indulge you all with beautiful pictures again soon =) I probably miss them as much as you do =)

Where I’ve Been Hiding!

Oh man! Lord knows I never meant to be away from punKyj for this long!
.
So since my last post in August here’s what I’ve been doing…in no particular order
Notice that there are no photos of my amazing creations, or sob stories about my sewing mishaps.  It’s because I have barely touched my punKyj life since I finished KP’s Magic Messenger.  And because I’ve created another disaster in the meantime without sewing!
.
When I went to the WWE wrestling match I brought my Sanctify bag with me (as I always do) and dropped it into some nasty wrestling juice under my seat.  It was sopping wet!  So I went home with the intention of washing it on gentle, hang drying it, or drying it on delicate.  Since I’ve only wash tested one other of my bags.
.
Unfortunately it was washed in the same load as a super heavy RUG!  And thrown into the drying on high, not once but TWICE, with the huge and heavy rug!
.
The good news is that my bag stayed strong and in one piece.  The bad news is that the color is completely faded and it’s semi mis-shapen  and some of the interfacing on the inside of the bag clumped together, so it feels like there are little balls inside of the flap!  *sigh*  At least I know my bags are sturdy…
.
Anyway, I’ve been desperately dreaming about getting back into the groove and have even started my Auntie Annie’s new purse (which is going to be pretty sweet) but haven’t continued to work on it, because not only do I need more supplies, but I’ve been working for 11 days straight and have been moving all over the east coast for the past 3 weeks =/
.
So look forward to some new photos come the end of September and I’ll keep doing faulty experiments on my
bag so that I can make yours better! =)

Photoshoot in Martha’s Vineyard!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

If you tell me these aren’t the sweetest girls you’ve ever seen and I’ll step on your foot and break your toe!  These girls are amazing and will someday leave a huge mark on this world!

But for now they are care free, FUN, and enjoying the little things, and even littler things that can fit in their new bags =)

I’m so glad you girls love your bags as much as I loved making them!  It makes me happy to see other people’s joy while carrying them =)

And just a heads up.  I also gave photoshop my best attempt for these pictures.  I may have “over photoshopped” a few but I think they still look good for the most part!  It’s all a learning process =)

Enjoy!
